Caroline Catz was born in Manchester in 1970 as Caroline Caplan. She was educated at Culcheth Hall School and then Loreto College. She then went on to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
To join the Equity agency she was required to change her name, as there was already another actress registered under hers. She came up with her new name after seeing a picture of a cat in a phone box, the irony being that she is allergic to them.
Multi-talented Caroline has had a packed and varied career. She is most well known for her television acting - her most famous characters being Louisa Glasson in Doc Martin, and Rosie Fox in the Bill. She also acts on stage, does various voiceover work including adverts and documentaries, writes and directs her own productions (such as 'A Message To The World), and has sung in two bands - Sapphire and Monoland.
She is married to her co-star from the Bill, Michael Higgs. They have two children, Sonny (born 2001) and Honour (born 2006).
